Abstract

Being a physicist, I gravitate towards concrete, not abstract concepts and images. On the other hand, I am fascinated by patterns, and ‘pattern formation‘ is a persistent topic of my research. I am interested in how complex but regular patterns emerge from randomness. It happens everywhere, from turbulent swirls in fluids to sand dunes to biological self-organization. The collection of images presented here shows some examples of this emergent complexity. Some of these images may even qualify as bona fide fractals! And I also hope that you’ll find them not only interesting, but esthetically pleasing. I do.
